There are two types of business card scanners. One type takes an electronic snapshot of the card, and the other captures and arranges the information contained on the card. The Wall Street Journal found that the average business worker in America loses roughly an hour and a half every day, which amounts to 40 hours a year, in lost productivity including searching for lost and misplaced items due to poor organization.
Laptop scanners can alleviate that problem. Though a survey of 882 companies by AIIM found that a majority of businesses still believe paper documents are needed, many businesses have turned to digital filing systems. Businesses that have portable scanners allow employees to scan documents and have them stored digitally. They can then be reproduced and printed whenever needed. This takes up far less space than physical filing cabinets, and is much preferred by many businesses, especially since more people are trying to be economically friendly.
The analyst firm Gartner expects that 60 percent of server workloads will be virtualized in the next five years. Due to the work of laptop scanners, companies can scan all documents and eliminate physical paper in the workplace where it is not needed. This can save money, as paper costs money. Estimates put the number of business documents that are printed, copied or faxed annually in America at more than 1.1019 trillion, according to InfoTrends. Having a scanner and a digital filing system can make life a lot easier.
