Living in the city has its perks. Shorter commutes, public transportation, entertainment, and a bustling nightlife are just a few of the reasons that people are jumping at chances to live in the city. One city in particular is getting more attention than ever before. Why are almost a quarter million people, or specifically 242,803 people as of 2012, calling Norfolk, Virginia home?
Booming Business
Expansion Management Magazine lists Norfolk as one of the “the top 10 markets for business relocation and expansion,” and it is not the only top publication to give the city some credit. USA Today also considers Norfolk one of the top cities, clearly impressed by its long term success in housing and retail. The best news yet? Commuters in Norfolk enjoy a shorter trip to work. Compared to the national average, or a 28 minute commute, Norfolk commuters get to work in only 24 minutes.
Meet That Special Someone
One of the best advantages of living in a city is the nightlife. Renting one of many downtown apartments and getting a job in Norfolk does not mean an end to your social life. In fact, Sperling and AXE Body Spray dubbed Norfolk number seven in the “Top Ten Best Cities for Dating.” The reasons? Norfolk locals bring their dates the most flowers, and they are some of the most prolific online daters.
Entertainment and Class
The advantages of city life do not stop there. Residents are more than welcome to try out city bars and clubs but, if they want something a little more substantial, they have other options, too. Norfolk also boasts the Virginia Opera, the Virginia Symphony, the Virginia Arts Festival, and the Virginia Stage Company.
The benefits of living in the city are endless. Joining the ranks of thriving business people, meeting your other half, and high end entertainment are just a few of the advantages of city life. More research here.
interesting points… i wasn’t expecting the dating one! i think it’s interesting that there are a lot of online daters (especially in a city!), but it seems like they do well enough if they ranked number seven. i always wanted to go to an opera, too!
